Saturdays are becoming busy. Planning for exhibitions this year and also book releases. This weekend we had a meeting with Keizo Miyanashi, we will run an exhibition of his most recent works in April. After that onto two friends exhibitions. Rob runs the wonderful Wishless Gallery in Tokyo and is also is a freelance graphic designer and artist. Please check out his gallery website, he holds some really interesting exhibitions throughout the year. Here is a great article about the show (Japanese). Yo (Chiyun Yo) is a Taiwanese artist based in Tokyo. She is a fixture on the Tokyo scene and and I often but into her at various art events and exhibitions. Her penchant is for detailed drawings using ballpoint pens in red and blue. Very nice. Her show is with a bunch of other artists until the 31st at https://www.facebook.com/galerielemonde/ And here is an interview with one of the other artists exhibiting at the show.

I'd like to recommend this drawing book for kids (and adult kids). Page count, size, stuff like that are all below. It's cram packed with activities from artists and illustrators, some you might know, some you might not known. Some of my favourites are in here and a few who intend to investigate further. I'm a fan of Benji Davies, Axel Scheffler,Sarah McIntyre, Chris Riddell, Natalie Russell but there are a ton more. This is a good bridge to help young children understand about the artist process and getting them creating with the help of (some) artists they will be familiar with. Sakura Medal is a reading incentive program run by about 30 international schools in Japan. The program has 9 categories including Graphics Novels. Children vote on their favourite books. I think we had about 800 votes last year. Every year we come together to decide which books will be part of the program. You can see this years Graphic Novel category >>>HERE<<<. This year we can nominate any books that were published on or after 2014. One book I will be nominating is Drew Weing's, "Set to Sea" as it has been a grower on me and has stood up to multiple readings. Anyway you should check it out if you haven't already as its a great little book. I finally got my hardcover copy of Toon Graphics abridged version of Locust Moon's Dream Another Dream anthology. This is a great little book for school libraries and also for those people who missed the original kickstarter. With a forward by Francoise Mouly, and another by Art Spiegelman, and also an intro' by the Locust Moon lot and then a bundle of art work stories by a whole lot of cartoonists inc. Box Brown, David Mack,Jim Rugg , and Black Hook Press cartoonist James Harvey, this book is well worth buying.
